Information Systems

Welcome to the Information Systems guide! This guide is designed to help students locate resources to get started on their research in IS. By clicking the tabs on the left, you can see books, journals, databases, and other resources that the library recommends for information systems students. On the right side of this page are some articles that describe what information systems are and introduce you to the study of information systems. 
 

What Is an Information System?  - This introductory chapter from the textbook Information Systems for Business and Beyond overviews the components of information systems. 
Information System  - An article from the Encyclopedia Britannica defines and describes information systems.

This page lists some reference sources and books that give general overviews of the study of information systems and related subjects. 

• Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology (Ebook) - This encyclopedia gives detailed introductions to a comprehensive set of topics within the study of technology. 
• Encyclopedia of Computer Science (Ebook) - This encyclopedia includes 34 chapters on research in computer science.
• Information Systems for Business (Ebook) - This book introduces readers to the concepts of information systems.
• Information Systems for Business and Beyond (Ebook) - This book is an open access textbook with sections describing what information systems are, how they can improve businesses, and the future of informations systems. 
• Information Systems & Technology (Ebook) - This book is a reference guide that gives a broad overview of information systems and how they are used in business. 
• MIS: Management Information Systems (Print Book, Call Number: RES T58.6 .B53 2021) - This is a textbook that covers topics on management information systems. It is on our course reserve shelves, which are available for 2-hour checkout.

• Association for Information Systems - The Association for Information Systems website provides many resources, including publications, webinars, and other information. Many of the publications are freely available in their eLibrary. 
• Information Systems Security Association - And international association, the ISSA publishes research and data, as well as additional resources, on its website. 
• ISACA - ISACA is an organization for information systems professionals, and their website provides many resources like articles and podcasts for free even for non-members. 
• INFORMS - An association for operations research and analytics, the INFORMS website includes information about the top news and current trends in fields related to information and analytics.
